Kitten Care
Vaccination
Often your kitten will have had one vaccination prior to coming to you. This first vaccination is generally done at 6 to 8 weeks of age, but is a temporary vaccination only.
For the common illnesses your kitten will require a second vaccination at 12wks of age and then a third vaccination at 16wks of age.
We can now also vaccinate against ‘Feline Aids’.This requires one extra vaccine so talk to us about this at your first visit with us.

Feeding
Feed a high quality premium kitten food (eg.Royal Canin,Iams,Advance) particularly in the early months while your kitten is growing. Many of the lesser quality foods found at your local supermarket don’t provide the nutritional properties that are vital for your growing kitten’s development.
We are more than happy to help you find a diet to suit your kitten.

Sterilisation
Speying (sterilising a female cat) & castration (sterilization of a male cat) can be done from around 5-6 months of age. It is a day procedure with your kitten being dropped off early morning and being picked up that same evening.
Not only does this operation prevent unwanted pregnancies and unsociable behaviour, but it also has a variety of health benefits for your kitten.

Microchipping
A Microchip is a small chip about the size of a grain of rice that is implanted under your kitten’s skin, usually between the shoulder blades.
If your kitten ever goes missing, they will have a much higher chance of being re-united with you if they are microchipped. Collars can come off and tags can wear out but microchips are a permanent form of identification and nearly all vets, pet shelters and your local council have scanners.
